Katie and I were asked by Simon and Katie P what sort of style we wanted to go for, in relation to titles, the website, style bible and graphics (title captions). We made them a sheet of different colours, titles and layouts that we would like to keep from our original pitch - these are all things that Del liked and wanted us to keep, e.g. the font, colours etc.
Katie and I caught up with Simon after briefing him to see what ideas he developed. He said he wasn't keen on our font - Avenir Next - because it looked a bit boring and as if it was a powerpoint heading - rather than a title to a television programme. We took this in and heard from him which fonts he thought would look good. He put different fonts of 'Steal the Style' on one page and changed the colours of the background and fonts so we could see what colours went with what.
There were a few pink colours but we want it based at men and women so we don't want to have the titles too pink. In the end, we liked the orange colour as the background with a beige / off white as the title colour.
With the font situation, Katie and I do like our original font but we do understand that it's a bit boring and hasn't got much to it. Because of this, I looked into chat / fashion show programme titles to see what type of font they use.
My findings:
Chat / fashion show titles – no fancy writing, plain bold writing
It’s what they’ve done with the background / format e.g. 3D,
slanted, capital letters
This Morning is
the only one with ‘tails’ on the ends of the letters – all the others are a
plain font
This Morning and Loose Women – pastel colours
The One Show –
Bold, red and white
The Clothes Show and
Fashion Channel – plain, black and
white – but they stand out because of the black and white text and background.
Fashion Channel –
has a burst of colour with the red
Black and white makes it look more professional – the two
shows / channels based on only fashion are the back and white ones.
This Morning and Loose Women – look more engaging and
comfortable because of the colours – more welcoming / homely
This Morning and Loose Women – both words have different
font style i.e. one word bold and one not
Loose Women has
two different fonts for both words
We like the idea of boxes around the words like Loose Women
I fed these ideas back to Simon and he said he'll get back to us with more ideas for the title.
Title sequence ideas
I had an idea for the title sequence which I will talk to the promo team about:
This Morning style - presenters walking around and our ‘coming ups’ are displayed on things they pass e.g. poster / taxi header (photo below).

Presenters could walk down high street - shop windows / displays could be the ‘coming ups’.
