STORYTELLING: Speed Pitching Workshop

Another story-telling workshop we were introduced to was speed pitching. The aim of this was to help us create a good pitch to sell our story in 25 or less words. This was good practice to help pitch our own ideas for the story-telling unit. We had to base our pitch on three things each time and we had to look through our newspapers and magazines to find an article which we could turn into a good story.

The first things we had to base on were - a big budget
                                        - Hollywood thriller
                                        - with a big star
After hearing about Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's divorce my group decided to incorporate that. Therefore, in the end our big budget film idea was:

Brangelina: The Movie
Johnny Depp takes Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie hostage and threatens to kill Brad if Angelina doesn't star in the sequel 'The Tourist 2'. (24 words)

Our next words were - British comedy
                    - series for late night
                    - on Channel 4
This story we mainly made up ourselves after researching different shows that were on Channel 4, in the end we came up with:

How To Love A Human
Alien finds it hard to comply with Earths' way of life due to having x-ray vision. But can he see past the human body and find love. (27 words)

Our final story was based upon these words - low budget
                                           - 10 minute short film
                                           - in a council estate
This one was slightly different as it was low budget so we couldn't really involve any celebrities and if we were to film it, it would have to be a 10 minute short film not a bit production like our other ideas would have been. However, we did it in the allotted time    and we came up with this:

It's All Fun And Games
Girl on a council estate hosts a small gathering but can her world be turned upside down when the wrong crowd turn up unexpectedly. (24 words)

I found this specific workshop really helpful as it gave me an idea of what my pitch should be like for my idea. It was also really interesting to see what we could come up with in such a short space of time (15 minutes on each pitch). These are ideas we never would have thought of and we managed to think of three completely different, weird and wonderful ideas with simple words to base it on.
