FORMAT

The typical
comedy night usually follows the layout in the screenshot above. However, for
my idea we will only have the one comedian rather than a couple. The
‘headliner’s’ performance, according to the schedule, takes around 30-40, which
suits our time requirement at 30 minutes.
VT’s
Could have
different VT’s of small introductions to each comedy section???
VENUE / AUDIENCE AND ACT POSITIONING

Looking into this website and the tips it gave on creating a comedy show were very helpful. I had not thought about the comedian being on a raised platform, which seems obvious now to keep the focus mainly on the act. However, learning that it is important for the audience to see the act from the waist up was new to me and that the audience should be in darkness to help them immerse themselves in the evening.
The design team at UCA can create a
raised platform. Background can be decorated with whatever Lloyd will talk
about, small graphics/images which relate. Have Lloyd’s name / logo on the
background (photo below).

- Create posters and leaflets, put the event out on Facebook and Twitter. Inform family and friends.
Layout / structure ideas:
One thing I was struggling with was making the idea into a 30 minute show, I put together some ideas to see if it was even possible to do this:
VT number 1 / introduction to Lloyd, graphic?
1st Section:
Lloyds own stand up material
______________________________________________
VT number 2 / graphic of Lloyd playing a game?
2nd Section:
Audience participation, with a game/quiz?
______________________________________________
VT number 3 / graphic of mystery guest
3rd Section:
Mystery guest?? A guess comes onto the stage and Lloyd
has to compete against them in a little game
Comedy Commissioning
I had a look at the BBC commissioning website to see what they expect from different genres that get suggested to them. I looked into the comedy commissioning section which showed me what the BBC expect commissioned to them for a comedy piece and what format the productions are the suit the specific BBC channels.

From my initial ideas of the comedy night with the comedian, I think my programme would be best suited for BBC Two because it is filmed in front of a studio audience and the programmes are 30 minutes each which is what mine needs to be.
