'AS LIVE' PRODUCTION: Research into the 4 segments & Risk Assessments

The 4 different segments that we want for our show to accompany the 4 VTs are:
1. TRENDS OF THE WEEK
2. MICROBRANDS
3. VERY VINTAGE
4. DIGGING THROUGH THE WARDROBE OF...

1. TRENDS OF THE WEEK
I thought it would be a good idea to put in mens sections as well as ladies sections to make it appealing to both genders, we thought this was a good section to have two clear parts, one mens trend of the week and one ladies trend of the week.

The presenters will discuss the trends between them. For example, according to Elle magazine, some of the 'trends of this week' for women are:

Elle trends of the week (19/01/18)

They will then take one trend for each sex and give further depth on this trend by providing information on how to style the trend in a way that keeps up with current fashion but allows the individual to stand out from the crowd. After the discussion, a reporter led VT will be played. This reporter will go to different high street stores to explore where has the best deals for this trend. It almost acts as a challenge - a challenge to see where you can dress on trend for the best price.

After the VT has played, the presenters will ask the audience whether they think the trend is HOT or NOT. Using paddles with either a flame or an X on, they will vote whether they think the trend is hot or not. The winning vote will determine whether the trend goes on the hot or not side of the board.

To emphasise this for the pitch, I created a paddle with a flame and an X on each side so we could hold it up when we explain the not or not board and paddles.

2. MICROBRANDS
We liked the idea of researching into micro brands / micro shops - non-chain, single boutiques because they are different and aren't following the crowd with the same fashion which is in high street chain shops, e.g. Toyshop / Topman, River Island etc. I went into the town in Margate because I knew there were a few independent shops down there. If in the end we wanted to go further afield we could go to Brighton as they have these shops also. As Margate was easiest for me to get to, I went down there for the research into the shops.

The VT for this section will explore the guests store, showing what they sell for what price and gives information on how to support local businesses. We were thinking of interviewing a couple of customers in the stores as well to ask them why they shop there and what it has to offer over high street stores. The guest will then be interviewed about what they sell, pros and cons of running an independent store and where they get the ideas for their designs.

To finish the section the audience will be asked to rate the store as hot or not.

3. VERY VINTAGE
There will be no guest in the studio for this section, the presenters could discuss the increasing popularity of vintage markets and provide their top 5 tips on finding some good pieces at vintage markets.

We want the VT for this section to be fun. We want the presenters to go to a vintage market with a budget and try and piece together the best outfit from things they find at a vintage market. They could take pictures in the outfits and then the studio audience will rate each outfit hot or not - one outfit has to go on each side of the board, one hot and one not.

If our idea goes forward, there is a vintage fair coming up in February in South London, this is an option to film this sections VT at.

4. DIGGING THROUGH THE WARDROBE OF...
This was the first idea Katie had within this chat show idea because they have showed something similar on Made In Chelsea on E4, which is where the inspiration came from. Each week we could go through someone's wardrobe and see what their fashion is like, their favourite pieces which could be from years ago etc.

In this section we think the presenters should be joined by a guest - we're thinking a small fashion blogger. We want the VT for this section to show the guest and reporter going through their wardrobe to explore what sort of key pieces they have, what they've held onto over the years, what the oldest item is and what's been passed down to them.

Then we'll go back to the studio, the guest will have one item shown in the VT and will answer questions about where they bought it, how long ago, for how much and how they would style it. The presenters will then advise the audience on where they can find a similar piece for the best price.

To finish this section, we could go back to the hot or not board and get the audience to vote on the item / outfit.

Risk assessment - On location

Location: Reporter visiting high street stores (VT 1)
Risks
- Trip hazard from wires from equipment
- We will be working around the public

Control methods
- Making sure there is as little wire as possible on the ground, maybe a camera assistant holding the wires
- We will make sure

Location: Independent store (VT 2)
Risks
- Trip hazard from wires from equipment

Control methods
- We will make sure the wires are off the ground or if that isn’t possible, we will make sure they are well known to cast and crew

Location: Vintage market (VT 3)
Risks
- Trip hazard from wires from equipment
- The guests may be rushing around trying to find outfits
- We will be working in amongst the public

Control methods
- We will make sure wires are
- We will make sure the equipment is safe and not knocked when rushing around following the guests
- We will make sure the public are aware we are filming so no one gets in the way / harmed

Location: The guests’ house / bedroom (VT 4)
Risks
- Trip hazard from the wires
- Possibly be in the way of fire doors

Control methods
- We will make sure the wires are out the way / off the ground. This will be easier to control here as it’s in a private house rather than in with the public
- We will make sure we don’t set up or have any equipment in the way of the exit of the bedroom or house
