'AS LIVE' PRODUCTION: Development & Finalising the Music

We needed some original music for the show. This pieces were for the catwalk segment, titles, VT's and the stings, the drag act and drumroll and finally the outro.

VT music:
Katie uses a lot of music for her Youtube channel and had copyright free access to an artist called Lakey Inspired. I enjoy listening to all the music Katie uses in her videos so I was happy for her to suggest music artists - I knew I would be happy with anything she chose. The music VT used is very up-beat but calm which would fit the tone of the show perfectly. These music beds were used for the Old to New and DIY VT's.

Promo music:
Promo found the music for the title sequence and attached it to the video. I love the music they chose, it's such a happy sound and upbeat - perfect for the intro and outro to get the audience smiling as the show finishes. While the presenters are signing off the show, the music will be quiet, and as the credits hit the music will be brought up filling the studio with a happy sound while everyone applauds each other.
Drag performance music:

Jemma and Victoria found an artist who composed a piece of music for the drag performance. I didn't hear much of this before it was sent over to Conor, so I left the responsibility of this piece of music to the PA's. It just needed to be upbeat for an energetic performance from Conor but also fit the tone of our show. Once the music was complete, it was sent over to Conor and within a couple of days he had put a performance with it and had learnt the words to lip-sync.

Catwalk and sting music:
Andrew found some music beds for the catwalk segment and stings, however, his first examples didn't quite match the tone of our show, he ended up listening to the music in the VT's and the music from our pitch as inspiration and he ended up using the ones from our pitch from artist, Dyalla Swain. As we used them in the pitch, we knew we would like them, these followed the tone a lot better and we were very happy with them.

Andrew went through the music pieces and picked out which ones suited which part of the show. The stings had their music attached, which will be controlled by the VT operators but the catwalk segment will be controlled by Aimee in the sound room, she'll bring up the music on the directors call and will fade it out on the directors call.

Initial music samples and final pieces:

Reflection on music:
- I am very happy with the music, especially as we ended up going back to the original music we had suggested as we already knew we liked this. It was also nice to have some of the original work involved in the final show.

- All the different music beds flow throughout the whole show, unfortunately, we haven't included the ones made by Andrew as they didn't fit as well, but we were very happy with what he found in the end and the tone matches ours perfectly for the show.

- Katie was more involved with the music than I was as I don't know any music artists or anyone to contact, therefore, Katie liaised with Andrew more than I did, but I was very happy with their outcome together.

- I realise how important sound and music is in a television show, and how just the music can change the tone of the show. It would be very boring without music, and after exploring it slighting during this project, I want to look into it more.
