'AS LIVE' PRODUCTION: Morning Rehearsals & Transmission

Today is SHOW DAY

I got in for 8:30 so I could make sure everything was set up properly and finalise the last few bits, e.g. make sure all final VTs are uploaded on the system etc. The first thing I did when I got in was tape the wires from the par cans down and out of the way of the camera and then I made sure the presenters were comfortable and welcomed the contributors in, and made sure they were ready to get their mic's on.

Schedule for today:
9:30 - 10:00 first rehearsal
Reset
10:30 - 11:00 second rehearsal
Reset
11:15 - 11:45 third rehearsal

Like yesterday, I made further notes during each rehearsal so we could act upon them to improve the show:

Rehearsal 1 - 9:30 - 10:00
- make sure there is an applause when Bonnie is introduced
- maybe a bigger applause for Sapphire - this will be bigger when there is a larger audience in for the live showing
- can see the gap in the set still behind Sapphire
- maybe set seats behind the set for the contributors so they don't have to stand up for the whole show

To improve for second rehearsal:
- tell the audience runners to hold the signs up for when Bonnie is introduced to get an applause from the audience
- make Jack aware of the gap in the set when he's behind it with contributors

Rehearsal 2 - 10:30 - 11:00
- keep Alfie's "tic tack box" line
- keep rolled up jeans for Kevin
- get a tighter shot on Bonnie's dress on the mannequin
- change Bonnie's name strap to her business name Fresh Air and Buttons
- big applause after Sapphire
- Sapphire's mic lead can be seen

To improve for third rehearsal:
- I told Alfie I liked his line about him and his brother wearing matching outfits, one orange and one green and they looked like a tic tack box and if he could keep it in
- I asked Jack to make sure Kevin's jeans stayed rolled up as we liked that look with the dad trainers - made it look more modern and trendy
- I suggested to Gavin about getting a close up of Bonnie's dress on the mannequin as it has pumpkins on it, being a halloween themed dress, but we couldn't see that on the screen. Once she says it was a dress for halloween we should be able to see the pattern on the dress
- Bonnie mentions her child range name Fresh Air and Buttons, this would be a better under her name in her name strap. She also has an adult range coming up, Poison and Pins. Katie and I asked her which one she preferred and she was happy to have Fresh Air and Buttons on it
- We checked with the floor managers that the audience runners were holding the APPLAUSE sign up for the end of Sapphires performance
- We noticed Sapphires mic lead had slipped out of her top and we could see it against her shoulder. Katie and I found the sound assistant, Harvey, and told him about this and we advised him to try and tuck the wire under Sapphires outfit

Rehearsal 3 - 11:15 - 11:45
- Check makeup on this rehearsal - it looks slightly orange on the cameras
- Hold graphics of shops and prices on Styles of the Season for longer?

To improve for LIVE show:
- We realised we could see a distinct colour difference between Adeline and Sapphires faces and neck on the cameras. Once we watched it through again on this rehearsal we realised it was camera 2 as the PMW was down. This meant the colours were off, it showed the coffee table as a bright orange when all the other cameras show the table as red. During the lunch break Ferg fiddled with camera 2 - it wasn't a perfect match with the others but it was a lot better and the skin colours matched on their faces and necks

LIVE SHOW
As we couldn't take any notes to improve on the next rehearsal as the show was now going live, we took notes of mistakes incase we need to edit anything slightly in post-production. We did so well on the live show that the only mistake I noticed was that Adeline said Sofia's mesh top was from Boohoo when the graphic said it was from Pretty Little Thing. I don't think we will be able to change this as it would be difficult to match the words up, and Adeline might not have been in the exact same place in the rehearsal before.

Katie and I stayed in the gallery to be on hand for timings, during each VT we went over to Jemma and Victoria to ask about timings. We were also on hand for the presenters if they needed any more information on the contributors, they did not so we didn't need to communicate with them over talkback. After the show, Katie and I went straight to the presenters and contributors to check they were happy with how the transmission went, we thanked them and saw them out of the studios. We will be sending them over a copy of the show as a thank you when it's ready to go out to the public.

Reflection on live show:
- We did really well in the live show - everyone was very professional in front of the audience and the directors called the shots very well so the recorded show should look very smooth.

- The camera operators were very smooth with their movements which made the directors job easier and made the whole show look professional. There were a couple of camera moves on the transmission screen but these weren't too noticeable.

- All the contributors said the correct things from the script and didn't swear or say anything offensive.

- We didn't have to change timings much at all. We only needed to add / take away a few seconds towards the end, because the timings evened out between Styles of the Season and the links between segments.

- We finished on 30 minutes exactly, which we have only done a few times during rehearsals.
